Tinker Hatfield is the brain behind some of the most stylish Air Jordans of all-time, but according to the man himself, style is often an afterthought during the design process.
"Style is important, but I don't give it a high importance to begin with," Hatfield said in a Periscope Q&A captured by Kicks on Fire. "Basketball players need to know these sneakers are going to work."
Kicks on Fire also added a quote from Mark Smith that echoed Hatfield's performance-over-style statement. "We won't sacrifice performance for aesthetic," Smith said.
With this in mind, it's remarkable that many of Hatfield and Smith's creations have gone on to become iconic not only on the court, but in the worlds of streetwear and fashion too.
