This Investigation Estimates that 1,200 People Die Over Sneakers Each Year

GQ investigated sneaker violence and the number of average deaths per year is unbelievably sad.

Unfortunately, we hear about sneaker violence in the news all too often these days, but this new investigation highlights an annual death average that is much more extreme than we thought. The documentary Sneakerheadz took a look at this and estimated that there are 1,200 deaths over sneakers each year.

Even with what seems like regular news about sneaker violence, more than twenty people losing their lives each week is a devastating amount to think about. In the documentary, a number of sneaker experts and influencers to try to understand what drives sneaker violence and who is to blame. While some blamed brands, exclusivity, and marketing, DJ Clark Kent believes sneaker violence is part of a bigger youth issue. "That's desperation of today's youth. That's a desperation that is pretty sad, that starts at home. That's not even about sneakers, that's about home," he said.

Whatever the reasons are behind sneaker violence, it's gone too far and it's time that more people start addressing it.
