Who would've ever thought that a basketball sneaker from the '70s would find new legs as a rugged winter boot in 2015? It may seem improbable, but the team at adidas Originals just pulled it off without a hitch.

Introducing the adidas Pro Model GTX. On paper, it may sound like it's simply a Gore-Tex-equipped version of the shell toe hoops shoe, but it's actually much more than that. The mid-cut silhouette has been tweaked from top to bottom to turn it into a legitimate winter boot.

For starters, the sneaker's upper is presented in a canvas-like synthetic material, while rugged metal hardware appears on the lug lacing system. Down low, the outsole's been given a rippled effect for increased traction on slick surfaces. And of course, the sneaker is backed by a waterproof yet breathable Gore-Tex membrane.

The Pro Model GTX is set to launch in three colorways — black, white, and teal — next weekend on November 28.
