For basketball fans, the scene of Dikembe Mutombo laid out on the hardwood, grasping the basketball with both hands in pure jubilation is one of the most memorable scenes in NBA history.

In the first round of the 1994 NBA Playoffs, Mutombo's eighth-seeded Denver Nuggets, who were down 2-0 in the best of five series, had just upset the highly touted and number one seeded Seattle Supersonics led by Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. The Sonics were coming off an impressive 63 win season while the Nuggets limped into the playoffs sporting a humble 42-40 mark. Not much was expected from Denver team, but Mutombo and his teammates rallied to make NBA history.

With the NBA Playoffs set to start later this week, adidas Originals is commemorating Mutombo's special moment with a re-release of the shoes he wore that day, the Mutombo 2, this coming May 10, 2014. More news and images of Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo's retro release is sure to drop in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
