The Saucony Retro We Didn't Realize We Wanted Until Now

It's not a collab but it might as well be.

This month we’ve been accosted as insaneSauconycollabs have reared their heads one after another. But it’s not all coming from the outside: the brand also has been working internally to step up its own game. And the Saucony Originals DXN Trainer is the latest step.

Pictures of an unreleased sample of the upcoming retro have turned up and they're surprising in more than one way.

First: the sneaker has a story. They were actually designed by an athlete, 1983 New York Marathon winner Rod Dixon. And he designed them with technology to support runners for long distance running stresses. This is more than just a pair of shoes to break necks in.

Second: the materials. Allegedly modeled after a Yukuten backpack, the shoes feature an upper made almost entirely of wool, with natural leather on the signature Saucony wave and heel. Red lining brings some color to the neutrality, and white laces play off the white midsole.

The package that this sample came in did not include a confirmed release. So... fingers crossed.
