For anyone who's ever watched golf, either in person or on television, the thought of a fan getting struck by a ball is always looming in the back of your mind. We've all seen it, a golfer shanks a drive into the woods leaving him with an impossible shot that needs to be hit just perfectly to squeeze through the trees and get back into a playable position. More often then not, spectators follow their favorite golfer right into the woods and congregate inches away from the desired flight plan like they're death defying stunt doubles without a care in the world.

For one fan, that nightmare became a reality as he was down in Arizona to watch the Accenture Match Championships. Rory McIlroy found himself in a tough spot after his drive on the fifteen hole landed him in a combination of sand and rock in the Arizona desert. McIlroy attempted to punch out to the fairway but his shot sailed left towards the gallery and struck an innocent onlooker. The man attempted to jump out of the way of the failed shot but in doing so, landed right on a cactus. Fortunately for the spectator, and McIlroy, the man was uninjured except some thorns in his back and side.

McIlroy defeated American, Boo Weekley, in what was the premiere matchup of the first round. Although McIlroy had a couple rough holes, he certainly looked the part as he laced up his signature Nike Lunar Control shoes for his first tournament of 2014 on American soil.
