Role: Founders, Common Projects

When Peter Poopat and Flavio Girolami set out to create Common Projects in 2004, they wanted to find "the essence of the sneaker". With a focus on craftsmanship, materials and silhouette rather than technology, little did they know that they would change the sneaker industry forever. Nowadays, fashion houses and small upstarts are all trying to get a piece of the luxurious casual footwear market, largely in part due to the shift in mentality that Peter and Flavio caused with their Achilles styles. While the brand has expanded vastly into traditional shoes and boots, it's still the benchmark for quality and timeless style in the "fashion sneakers" market. In 2014, kicks that fetch $400 don't seem so unreasonable because of the lane Common Projects created, proving how elegant trainers can actually be.
