For Chicago Bulls fans, this season has been disappointing to say the least. After Derrick Rose's inspirational comeback, the driving force behind the Bulls offense has once again succumbed to injury. Now struggling at 8-10, Chicago's doing their best to regroup following Rose's unexpected departure, but it's been a tough adjustment period for the once mighty franchise.
On December 9, 1997, things were going much better for the Chicago Bulls. Michael Jordan was still around and in his prime as a player, and they had also assembled one of the greatest supporting casts of all time. On this day, Chicago hosted the New York Knicks, adding yet another chapter to one of the '90s most intense rivalries. As the Bulls coasted to a 100-82 win, Michael Jordan had 29 points, which put him at 27,432 total points over the course of 13 seasons. This meant that Jordan surpassed Moses Malone to earn his spot as the third highest scorer in NBA history. To this day, Jordan remains at number three with 32,292 total career points, although Kobe Bryant is hot on his tail with 31,626.
A historic sports moment needs a historic shoe, right? During this record-setting achievement, Michael Jordan wore the White/Black/Red variation of the Air Jordan XIII. This Air Jordan model featured explosive Zoom Air cushioning in both the heel and forefoot, and has gone on to become one of the most popular styles of all time.
