If not for the iconic Runbird logo, runners may have a hard time recognizing Mizuno’s footwear offerings next year, as the brand has numerous brand spankin’ new models on tap for 2014. Where the Wave Paradox and Wave Hitogami are the newcomers on the tarmac, the Wave Kazan and Wave Hayate are the newest additions to Mizuno’s trail category.

The new off-road duo should serve as a welcome sight for Mizuno fans who wanted more trail running options other than the Wave Ascend (the lone true trail shoe currently in the brand’s arsenal). While both shoes are anchored by the same Wave platform, the Kazan is designed for runners in search of the extra protection, while the Hayate is for those who are willing to sacrifice a bit of protection for more speed. Accordingly, the former features a 12mm heel-to-toe offset while the latter is slightly lower to the ground at 9mm. Both shoes tip the scale under 10 ounces.

Stay tuned for release information.
