If you thought all minimalist running shoes were created equal, think again. While most minimal shoes tend to be lacking in the cushioning and support category, specialty footwear brand Altra has found a way to integrate the two oh-so-important features while still staying true to its form-improving zero drop platform. A prime example of this is the Altra Instinct 1.5.

An upgrade to the original version, the Instinct 1.5 is zero drop shoe that can give even the most traditional of running shoes a run for their money in terms of comfort. The shoe is loaded with a double-stacked EVA midsole for cushioning underfoot, and features an innovative foot-shaped design to help runners maintain a proper running form, all the while reducing the risk of injury via impact. Its upper is constructed from a quick dry air mesh upper with minimal stitching for a lightweight and streamlined fit.

The Instinct 1.5 is a male specific fit with an oversized toe box—perfect for dudes with wide feet. It comes complete with a 4.5mm FootPod outsole without a midfoot shank for maximum ground contact and a fluid foot strike. The shoe comes with two insole options: a 3mm Strengthen one for a more natural feel and a 5mm Sculpted version for an extra layer of cushioning.
