To those that are unaware, university football powers Texas and Oklahoma are huge rivals with a long tradition of facing off on the gridiron among other places. Deemed the 'Red River Rivalry' over a fallout about the construction of a bridge between the two states adjacent to the region's Red River, the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners have sought to make their rivalry a bit more special using commemorative uniforms.

Without changing the integrity of the uniforms, Nike has augmented both football teams' uniforms using metallic gold patch accents with logos and Swooshes, and by turning the player name patches into team name tag on the rear side of the jerseys. Also featuring gold trim around the numerals to further accent the players, even the player gloves, the Nike Vapor Jet II Gloves receive get gold (in the palms of the hands).

In true historic fashion, the gold hue also is linked to the trophy the winning team receives for each contest, and is exchanged between schools as the victories are exchanged.

You'll be able to see Texas and Oklahoma play in the Red River Rivalry sets on October 12, 2013.
