KNOW YOUR TECH breaks down the scientific technology used in your favorite sneakers and activewear. Let’s demystify your next purchase: today’s technology is New Balance's TS2 post. The Transitional Support System, also known as TS2, is used in many of NB's running, training, and trail models to deliver a smooth heel-to-toe transition.

What is it? New Balance TS2 is a mutli-density synthetic which is used for medial support. Strategically placed on the medial side of the foot, TS2 technology covers 35% of the width of a sneaker, which provides ideal support for the heel area.

How does it work? Two different densities of foam are molded to specifications and then added to the midsole, which helps to deliver structural integrity. The first density of foam acts as a wall which minimizes heel movement. The second density of foam is integrated into the medial arch transition zone, which also limits heel movement during mid-stance and provides support throughout the transition phase.

Notable products: New Balance 759, New Balance 1050

Bottom line: Whether you prefer street or trail running, New Balance TS2 technology is a suitable choice for a comfortable and efficient heel-to-toe transition.
