Remember that adidas LA Trainer that was all the buzz among joggers in the ‘80s? Well over 30 years later, that iconic shoe is back—sort of.

For one of its latest running projects, adidas has put together a more modern, high tech version of the original LA Trainer and dubbed it the LA Runner. Though, while the two shoes share similar names, the new beefed up version is far-removed from the timeless LA Trainer in terms of design.

While the LA Runner lacks the same glamour as its ‘80s counterpart, the shoe does have an edge in the performance dept. After all, a lot of progress has been made in shoe technology over the past few decades believe it or not.

Featured in a simple Black/Metallic Silver colorway, the Runner has a lightweight air mesh upper for proper ventilation, as well as synthetic overlays for support. For lightweight cushioning, the shoe features a combination of an EVA midsole and a molded EVA insole. As for the outsole, it features a flexible zig-zag pattern that’s somewhat reminiscent of the Climacool Aerate 2.0.

By no means is the LA Runner geared towards elite or competitive runners. Rather, it should serve as a solid shoe choice for the casual runner, or just someone looking to relive the good ‘ol days.
