The US Open kicks off today, and Nike has created a special pair of Zoom Vapor 9 Tours, and we expect Roger Federer to lace these up for the tournament. But, are these a protest sneaker?
Earlier this year, Federer was banned from wearing a white pair of the same sneakers—that came with a bright orange sole—in Wimbledon, as the tournament felt the sneakers were a touch too extreme.
This time around, for the US Open, Nike has created another pair of limited edition Zoom Vapor 9 Tours, but they come in a mostly black colorway. No flash at all. Well, just a little bit. The sneakers have a reflective, 3M-laced upper.
Either way, the sneakers retail for $150, and are available via Nike's website right now.
