Last night, Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer continued to rewrite history as he upped his record to 13-0. As Detroit powered to a 6-2 win over the Blue Jays in Toronto, Scherzer allowed just two runs and seven hits. He also struck out eight batters and walked one over his 6 1/3 innings of play, pushing his start to thirteen straight.
This makes Scherzer the first pitcher in 27 years to start a season with thirteen straight wins, and cements him among a who's who of legendary pitchers. Currently ahead of Scherzer for best starts of all time are Roger Clemens at 14-0 in 1986, Dave McNally at 15-0 in 1969, and Johnny Allen at 15-0 in 1937. While it's obviously too soon to say for sure, if Scherzer is able to keep up this level of play, those records may very well be jeopardy as this could be the most successful pitching start of the Live Ball Era.
Scherzer opted for the Nike Air MVP Pro Metal, which has been getting the job done for him lately in a variety of Tigers-appropriate colorways. The Nike Air MVP Pro Metal features Air cushioning in the heel, a durable Framelite medial toe guard, and a nine-cleat configuration on a Pebax outsole.
