The WNBA season is less than two months in, but Chicago Sky guard Elena Delle Donne is already putting together a convincing Rookie of the Year campaign. Last night, the Sky visited the Connecticut Sun and advanced their record to 10-4 overall with a 83-70 win. Chicago is now third overall in the WNBA standings, trailing behind Minnesota and Atlanta.
Elena Delle Donne led the Sky with 23 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal. She came just three points shy of matching her career-high of 26. Meanwhile, forward Swin Cash added 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Sylvia Fowles had 14 points and another 8 boards. After the game, the veteran Fowles acknowledged the impact that Delle Donne has had on the Sky: "We have a sense of urgency this year, plus adding a pretty good player. Elena has a big part to do with (the winning). For us to officially have a true 4, she brings a lot. She's a threat. It makes everything else click." Whether Delle Donne ends up winning ROTY or not, earning that kind of praise from a leader like Fowles is a huge endorsement.
Looking to ball like Delle Donne? She's been wearing the Nike Zoom Soldier VI, which features a durable Hyperfuse upper and cutouts for ventilation. It also features Zoom Air cushioning in both the forefoot and heel for responsiveness on the hardwood. Although sizes are limited, Eastbay currently has the Zoom Soldier VI discounted for $60.
