Tiger Woods has been repping the Nike Swoosh since turning pro back in 1996. Seventeen years later, now that his current contract, signed in 2006, is set to expire at the end of the year, it looks like Tiger is sticking with his highest profile endorser.
Nike has yet to release a statement regarding the re-signing of Woods, but his agent Mark Steinberg recently told ESPN.com that a contract renewal is in the works for the most decorated golfer in modern time.
When Nike signed Rory McIlroy to a major endorsement deal back in January, many assumed the 24-year-old Northern Irishman would replace Woods as the face of Nike Golf. However, since then, McIlroy has had some trouble finding his stroke. In the nine events he’s entered this year, McIlroy has yet to record a single win. To the contrary, over that same time frame, Woods has won four of the eight matches he’s entered in so far this year, and finds himself atop the PGA golf rankings once more.
Let's not forget, too, that Nike is set to release Tiger's latest golf shoe, the Nike TW '14, in just a few days—a sign of more greatness still to come from the duo.
