CC Sabathia

One of the best pitchers in baseball, the Yankees’ ace and his son joined a star-studded group at courtside that also included Giants receiver Victor Cruz, rappers Joe Budden and Fabolous and esteemed director Spike Lee. Sabathia has long been a member of Team Jordan, and is often spotted wearing customized Air Jordan XI cleats on the mound at Yankee Stadium.

What do you think of the Jordan Classic on the whole, giving kids the opportunity to get out and perform in front of guys like you, and of course Michael Jordan?

This is great. I mean, to be able to have these kids come out and experience New York for a week and be able to play in this game, I think it’s pretty cool.

Have any particular players impressed you?

Jabari Parker is the guy I wanted to see. So getting the chance to see him play has been really great. He’s an unbelievable player.

If you were a basketball player on their level, and you were asked to play in this game, what would that mean to you?

Oh, it would mean everything. Especially being in high school and getting to play with other great players, it’s always an honor to do things like that.

I know you’re a Team Jordan member yourself. Even as a high-level athlete, it seems like that would be even a cut above.

It’s amazing. To be a part of that select few, to be able to wear the Jordans on the field, is unbelievable. Hopefully I can wear them the rest of my career.

Have you had the chance to spend time with Michael?

I’ve had the opportunity to meet him a few times. He’s just such a great role model and a great player, it’s just a really great thing for me personally to be a part of the brand.
