It seems like just the other day that we were chilling on the beach, comparing tans with beautiful babes and sucking down frozen cocktails. Now it gets dark at 4 p.m. Yup, Old Man Winter is on the way and none of us are looking forward to that icy middle finger he affectionately calls "December." There is one upside to the coldest of seasons, though: Winter means heavy-duty kicks. Before we can figure out where we're going, though, it's important to know where we've come from. In order to get our trail-sneaker history on lock, and make the right choices of trail-runner retros this season, we hit up Gary Warnett of crookedtongues.com fame to put together a history of the greatest Nike trail sneakers. From ACG to Terra and everything in between, these are the shoes that defined an era and continue to influence modern sneaker design. Click on the link to get educated on the greatest Nike trail sneakers—maybe it will influence your selections for the forthcoming season.

Sweetest shoes I've owned. I went through two pair, then couldn't find this model again. Regrind sole wore a bit too quickly, yet If I could have, I would have purchased as many pair as I could have afforded...

Someone else who shares my love for all things terra/acg. Albis & Ptarmigans would have been near the top of my list though

Dope. A lot of the trail sneaker have been lost in the Dunk/Runner/AF1 hype that followed. But in the 90's into 2k, these were all heavy in the street. Your Top 5 was on point. There was at least 1 Slip-on Air Max Humara. Terra Humara was heavy. Dope.

To not have at least one version of the Air Teocalli included on the list means that you're not qualified to compile this list.
