Half of the sneaker game is knowing what kicks are out when, and which shops have them. Our Shelf Space column looks at what shops around the country are stocking in a given week, and gives a quick glimpse into the mind of the buyer/manager/owner who put them there.
As we continue our mission of bringing you the insides of the best sneaker spots from around the U.S., we stop in at MAJOR, located in Washington, D.C. Duk-ki, the store owner, gave us a look at 10 of the hottest sneakers currently sitting on their shelves. Hit the jump to see his picks, as well as what he has to say about each one.
Nike Air Max 1 Premium Crepe Sail, $110
"Just looking at the material alone makes you want to buy this sneaker. The crepe sole comes protected in wax paper that you have to peel before you wear them. They also come in black/gum, but I like the off-white."
Nike Air Escape OG Twine/Mega Blue/Turbo Green, $100
"An ACG outdoor sneaker with an earthtone base and great color pops. One of the best from the '90s."
Converse Product (RED) Chuck Taylor Hi Gio Estevez, $80
"One of NYC's brightest teams up w/ Converse as a part of the Product (RED) series. All black w/ tonal NYC landscape embroidery. Definitely a must."
adidas Originals Attitude Hi Star Wars Jabba The Hut, $150
"Although these sneakers take design cues from Jabba's slimy and grotesque appearance, the end result is a pair of very wearable green & gold shoes."
Reebok Alien Stomper Grey/Red, $75
"The kicks from Alien Final Countdown have finally come out, and we have them. Reebok did a good job on this one for all of its faithful fans."
Nike Women's Air Max 90 White/Asian Concord/Laser Pink, $100
"The O.G. women's colorway is back, and it's a beauty. We always have good stuff for the ladies, and also guys that can wear up to women's size 12."
Nike Air Force 1 Low Tech Tuff Iguana, $88
"Gotta love the combination of army color, tech-tuff material for scuff and crease resistancy, and the gum outsole for that earthtone look. Definitely one of my favorites in the store."
Nike Air FlyTop Black/Tan, $130
"A grown-up sneaker for grown-up dudes. The material is top notch, and the style is unmatched. The combination of leather and suede really hits it home during the chillier weather."
adidas Originals by Originals Jeremy Scott JS Wings Reflective 3M, $200
"Everything about this shoe is extra, but then again, so is Jeremy Scott. He has made this Wings model a staple every season with adidas!"
Timberland Abington Gore-Tex Hiker Brown Suede, $200
"A Gore Tex-lined suede hiking boot is sort of a dream-come-true winter shoe for urban dwellers. Once you put your feet in these, you will never want to take them off. I know I was supposed to pick the 10 hottest sneakers, but I had to include this one! It's as comfortable as a sneaker, and it's getting cold."
