Twenty years ago, Tinker Hatfield went on a Nike-sponsored creative sabbatical, a trip around the world to bring forth the next great footwear moment for the young brand. When the architect came back, he went to work on completing the Max III, eye-ing the now famous Infrared colorway that would draw attention to the air bag. The rest is history, and the shoe now known as the Air Max 90 is a sneaker for the ages. Air Max has been revered in the United States, but in Europe, the series has an Air Force 1-like following.
