If you're looking for a good place to take a nap, there are literally a million and one places to do it—even if you're homeless. But there is one place that you should never, ever, ever take a nap. That place? The backseat of a police car.
That really should go without saying. But unfortunately, a homeless man named Ruben James Turner III didn't get the memo and decided to try and catch a few minutes of sleep in the back of a police cruiser in Portland, Ore. early Tuesday morning. And it didn't end well for him, as once he got into the car, he couldn't get back out. So he was locked up for several hours and had to eventually yell and scream in order to get the attention of a police sergeant, who freed Turner from the car before placing him under arrest for criminal mischief, criminal trespass, and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.
"It's safer than a lot of places and perhaps more comfortable than cold, wet pavement," Sergeant Pete Simpson said a short time after arresting Turner. "But it's definitely not a place most people would seek to sleep."
You can say that again.
We really shouldn't have to tell you this, but don't climb into police cars and fall asleep in them, guys. Unless, of course, you enjoy spending time behind bars.
