It's no secret that Toyota has been working on what will be a hydrogen fuel cell car that will go on sale in 2015, but we had no idea until now how ambitious the company was. Automotive News is reporting that Toyota is aiming to sell 5,000 to 10,000 FCVs in 2015, despite the fact that the estimated price has risen to $100,000. It's expected to cost about $50,000 to manufacture the powertrain, although that number is constantly dropping as Toyota figures out ways to reduce the amount of platinum needed.

The FCV looks kinda like a Prius from 2028, and it will no doubt be primarily purchased by the wealthiest Prius owners, but it will not be build on a Prius platform, due to the different weight and weight distribution of the fuel cell powertrain.
