The Audi R8 E-Tron has been shown, called "a production concept," and cancelled a few times now. That's why we've mostly just started ignoring it. This, however, is worth reporting: due to advances in battery technology, the R8 E-Tron electric supercar has been greenlit for production. No, really.

The new batteries have pushed the car's range up to 250 miles (from 134) and enable the motors to produce 374 horses and 605 lb-ft of torque; enough for a 4.2 second 0-60 sprint.

Expect this car to be used as a halo car for Audi's and VW's new line up of eletric and hyrbid cars, like the e-Up, the e-Golf, and the XL1.
