Every day that this federal government shutdown drags on, there are new lightbulb moments when we realize just how important it is for the government to receive funding so that people in various occupations can return to work. The New York Times pointed out that no federal government operations means no National Highway Transportation Safety Administration tests are being performed and cars can't be recalled for deadly defects. All those crash-test dummies are lying around doing nothing instead of helping to save lives.
