Driving Myths Debunked Image via Wikipedia Commons / Requested Credit

Seat belts and airbags do more harm than good.

This line of thinking is equivalent to saying "peer-reviewed scientific studies are nothing compared to my gut feeling." When people tell us they'd rather be "thrown clear of the accident" we facepalm so hard it hurts. Being thrown clear of the accident involves breaking through a tempered glass window with your skull, thus breaking the only think protecting your tender and delicate brain from impact. After that there will be a fleeting moment in which you're flying through the air thinking "all this blood can't be good" before hitting the ground head first with no skull to protect said brain.

The alternative involves sitting in a padded chair in something called a "safety cell" while all of your surroundings turn into the Stay Puft marshmallow man.
