Harley Earl is certainly one of the most influential figures in American automotive history: He's responsible for both the Corvette and the tailfin. He got the idea for the Corvette while travelling in Europe with the US Army in WWII and working on camoflague patterns. Rumor has it that the Jaguar XK120 was the car that had the most influence on Earl's desire to produce a small, American sports car.
