This Guy Sold His Car on Craigslist, Stole It Back, and Then Tried to Sell It Again

Buying and selling a car on Craigslist can be tricky. The majority of the people who post classified ads on the site are honest, decent people. But then, you have folks like New Jersey resident Reynold Joseph who ruin the car-buying process on Craigslist for everyone.

Recently, Joseph decided to sell his Pontiac G6. So, he made a Craigslist listing, got a bite from a woman in Nassau County, N.Y., and eventually sold it to her for $2500. Good deal, right? Er, no. Unfortunately, the transaction didn't end there. After selling the car to the woman, Joseph gave her the wrong title for the car. So, within hours, she called and asked for him to bring her the right one and he agreed to do so. But, when he showed up at her house, he didn't do it to bring her the real title; he did it to steal the car back.

He didn't make it very far, though. A short time later, Joseph got pulled over for driving a vehicle with tinted windows. When he did, police questioned him about the plates that were on the car that came back "not on file." And, when he tried to explain that he had just purchased the car himself from someone off Craigslist, the cops ran the vehicle identification number for the car and found out that it was stolen. They also found burglary tools in the car as well as master keys for Toyota and Acura cars. And, the worst part of all? They also discovered that Joseph had already relisted the car for sale on Craigslist. Again.

Joseph was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and possession of master keys and will have to go to court next week to answer to the charges. We hope that the judge throws the book at him and makes him promise to stay off Craigslist forever. It's hard enough to find a decent deal on a car on Craigslist without worrying about guys like him looking to rip people off.
