If We Were the Boss: Saab

Saab 9-2

The premium subcompact market is just starting to heat up, with the dominant Mini Cooper finally getting challengers even in the United States in the form of cars like the the Fiat 500 and the inbound Mercedes CLA-class. Rather than waiting to let the competition get established, it would be best to prioritize getting a small hatchback out there. The existing turboed engines could be downsized, and the 9-3 could be chopped down into something much smaller. The key to the success of this car would be to play up Saab's rally history. 9-2s would need to be found in the WRC and Global Rallycross, and a high-powered, AWD version would help to get fans to open their pocketbooks.
