Italians Buying More Bikes Than Cars for First Time Since WWII

Italy, birthplace of the Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Fiat motor companies sold more bikes than cars in 2011, with a total of 1.75 million bicycles sold, a ten percent increase from 2010. Astounding news coming from such a highly populated nation, but also not quite so surprising considering how famously fit and healthy the Italian people are, boasting the world's tenth highest life expectancy rate and some of the world's most smoking hot models. Is it a bit of a stretch to draw a correlation between the health and beauty of a nation's people and the rate of bicycles sold there? No, we don't think so at all.
