Honda Will Develop Next Civic In The United States

Honda has announced that the next generation of the best-selling Civic will be developed in the United States. The company's North American research and development department, which employs 2,000 people at the Raymond, Ohio complex, has grown significantly and will add the ubiquitous car to a list of luxury whips, including the new Acura NSX, already being developed in the Americas.

International automakers are exploiting the relatively low value of the US $ and the readily available expertise to increase both development and manufacture Stateside. Honda has been nuturing its American research wing for the past two decades and is now making a firm effort to increase the office's global responsiblity. [Autonews]
