The Complete History of Indianapolis 500 Winners

1991: Rick Mears

Starting Position: 1
Race Time: 2:50:00.791

Mears raced into rarified air by joining Foyt and Unser as the only four-time winners of the Indianapolis 500. The starting grid was full of interesting footnotes with Hiro Matsushita becoming the first Japanese racer in the 500 in the same year that Willy T. Ribbs broke the color barrier. The Andretti family made history by having four members in the same race with Mario's sons Michael and Jeff joining their cousin John in the lineup.
