Keech's victory celebration would be short lived as he became the 2nd Indy 500 winner to lose his life on the Altoona Speedway in Pennsylvania. Keech, a former land speed record holder of 207 mph in 1928, suffered fatal injuries just 17 days after his big victory in Indianapolis.
