The Complete History of Indianapolis 500 Winners

1925: Peter DePaolo

Starting Position: 2
Race Time: 4:56:39.460

DePaolo suffered from badly blistered hands during the race and stepped out of the car for 21 laps. After being treated in the infield care center he returned to the seat in 5th place, but guided his Deusenberg to victory in a gutsy performance. The nephew of 1915 winner Ralph DePalma, DePaolo was the first race winner to average over 100 mph.
