Vive la France! Frenchman Jules Goux piloted his Peugot to victory lane in the third Indianapolis 500, becoming the first European to win the soon-to-be classic American race. In true European form, Goux and his riding Mechanic Emile Begin sipped champagne during pit stops en route to the victory. The victor later said, “Without the good wine, I could not have won.”
