Land Rover's Edible Survival Guide Will Keep You Alive in the Desert

Land Rover's Edible Survival Guide Will Keep You Alive in the Desert

Created by the Y&R Dubai advertising agency to "promote the classic adventurous spirit of Land Rover owners" Land Rover has launched a campaign involving a guide for surviving in the Arabian Desert with a few useful if uncommon features.

The cover of Land Rover's desert guide is made with a reflective material that can be used to signal for help. The metal binding can be made into skewers to spear and cook all of the indigenous animals listed in the guide's 28 pages, which also include details on how to make shelter and build a fire.

The most innovative part of the whole thing, of course, is the fact that the guide is edible. Made of potato-based starch paper and printed with glycerin based ink, the pages hold about the same nutritional value as a cheeseburger.

With an expiration date of February 15, 2013, Land Rover's edible guide was originally printed for only 5,000 drivers, but has been so well received that the company has decided to print another 70,000 to be distributed via an insert in an upcoming car magazine ad.
