Ballon Lets People Experience Near-Space Travel

Experiencing outerspace without years of government training may be closer than we think. All you will need is $156,000 to land yourself a spot on a high altitude balloon called "bloon." Spanish entrepreneur José Mariano López-Urdiales and his company zero2infinity hope to bring this concept of space travel to life by the year 2015.

The bloon consists of a 400 foot in diameter balloon that carries passengers in a pod 22 miles above ground. López-Urdiale points out that space travel by balloon offers a much lengthier and quieter visit to space than travelers will find with competing space tourism ventures who opt to travel by rocket-powered space shuttle. Check out the clip below for a simulated trip on the bloon.
