The 7 Best Toyota Models Of All Time

Toyota2000GT
Remember when Toyota was the darling of the automotive industry? When pundits and journalists couldn't find anything bad to say about the world's largest automaker? You should, it was only a couple months ago. Turn on a TV now, however, and you'd think they were the public enemy #1. We guess that's what the largest recall in automotive history will do to you. That said, we still got love for Toyota. Despite all these hardships, their future looks bright. At the Tokyo Auto Saloon, they debuted their new "G" performance line which is great because it means they'll be once again putting out cars that are as fun to drive as they are frugal with the fuel. But that's not the only reason. Throughout they years, they've made some of dopest rides on the road. Remember the good times with our seven favorite Toyota models of all time...

toyotafj40

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40
Years: 1960-1984
• A little history. When the Japanese invaded the Philippines, they needed a vehicle that would allow them traverse the terrain without any problems. As a guide, they brought back an early Jeep model and told Toyota to build them something similar. What they came up with was the Land Cruiser—one of the most capable SUVs ever built. Our favorite out of their storied history is the FJ40.

toyotasupra

Toyota Supra Mark IV
Years: 1993-2002
• Thanks to The Fast and the Furious Toyota's 2+2 sports car has become the poster child for the sport compact scene. The fourth generation of this awesome coupe was the best out of the bunch. Yeah, it was heavy, a little unwieldy through turns and cramped, but it boasted one of the best engines to ever come out of Japan: the 220 hp 2JZ-GE and its turbocharged sibling, the 320 hp 2JZ-GTE. Back then, you couldn't have more fun on four wheels unless you were in a party bus with with all the Victoria's Secret Angels.

toyotaprius

Toyota Prius
Years: 2001-Present
• Yes, they're more akin to appliances than automobiles, but you can't front on the Prius. It paved the way for hybrids in this country and made all the other automakers get on their A game. Would Ford have made the Fusion Hybrid so good if there was never a Prius? Probably not. And the new generation is even better than the last. It's still a bore to drive, but you can get 50 miles per gallon! We'd rather be bored with money in our pockets, than entertained and broke.

toyotacelica

Toyota Celica All-Trac (ST185 & ST205)
Years: 1989-1999
• This is why we love motor sports. In order to participate in most racing leagues, auto companies have to actually sell the car they wish to campaign. To do this, companies release what is known as homologation specials. The Celica All-Trac was one of them. First built in '86, they didn't really hit their stride until the second gen in '89. Packing the awesome air-cooled, twin-turbocharged 3S-GTE engine, and four wheel drive, it was one of the most capable rides Toyota ever built. With it, Toyota won 16 World Rally Championship series and two Manufacturer titles.

toyotacorolla

Toyota Corolla (AE86)
Years: 1983-1987
• The Toyota Corolla wasn't always a bland econobox. Alright yes, it was, but back in the '80s, Toyota blessed them with a high-level trim that outfitted the rear wheel drive ride with a LSD and a potent engine that limited potential for tuning. And so people did. The car become a runaway success, becoming one of the most coveted and legendary drifting cars ever made. If you want one today, expect to pay a pretty damn penny for one...

toyotamr2

Toyota MR2 Turbo (MKII)
Years: 1989-1999
• They were squirrelly as hell. At times it felt like you were driving on ice, but that didn't matter, that was all part of the fun. And they looked great. It also helped that they threw in the same 3SGTE engine that was found in the Celica All Trac. A mid-priced, turbo, rear wheel drive coupe with super car looks? We knew it couldn't last.

Toyota2000GT

Toyota 2000GT
Years: 1967-1970
• We've never driven in one, but we couldn't leave the 2000GT off the list. Built by Toyota with help from Yamaha, the car that seemed to mimic Jaguar E-Type changed the way the world view the Japanese automotive market. It proved they could build cars to compete with big boys in Europe. Not only was it absolutely stunning—like Beyonce on wheels—it was fast as hell thanks to its 2.0L straight-six engine and handled great. This is the car Toyota needs to bring back, like, now.

I vote the 1st Gen Celica in ... it was Toyota's version of a mini muscle car. It kind of looked like a Camaro, Mustang hybrid.
