This isn’t a joke. James Gunn has released a second trailer for The Suicide Squad with all-new visuals on April Fools’ Day, just days after the debut trailer dropped. Check it out below.

Despite the dubious timing, Gunn does live up to his word with a trailer featuring mostly new scenes, a different tone, and a new song. “I was firm in not wanting to make two trailers exactly the same. That bugs me when they do that. If we’re going to ask fans to watch TWO, let’s give them a reason to do so, focusing on different aspects of our film,” he explained on Twitter.

Even though Internet sleuths appear to have figured out who or rather, what will be the film’s big bad, Gunn has once again determined that it isn’t ready for its close-up. We do, however, get more screentime with Peacemaker, played by John Cena, and a memorable line summing up his complicated “peace at any cost” philosophy. Cena will be reprising the role for an eight-episode series for HBO Max, written entirely by Gunn.

As you can also see from this latest trailer, The Suicide Squad will feature a wide array of characters, and Gunn admittedly wanted it that way.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on Aug. 6, 2021.
