On Monday, Donald Trump decided to tweet out a clip of Larry David putting on a MAGA hat in HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm.
He captioned the post, "Tough guys for Trump."
TOUGH GUYS FOR TRUMP! pic.twitter.com/DbjZjGzLWU
The scene shows David swerving in his car and nearly hitting a motorcyclist. The driver of the motorcycle, who's wearing a leather vest, yells and curses at David for his erratic driving. That yelling quickly turns into a "just be more careful next time" after David puts on a red "Make America Great Again" hat. Elsewhere in the episode, which is titled "Happy New Year" and is from the first episode of season ten, David uses the MAGA hat to achieve similar results of getting people to leave him alone. After Trump posted the clip, people took to social media to point out that the David wasn't exactly paying Trump or his supporters a compliment.
Naturally, Trump's sharing of the Curb clip has inspired many to dig up a previous Larry David interview in which he shared his assessment of how the MAGA hat storyline could possible "alienate" viewers who might identify as Trump supporters.
"Alienate yourselves!" he said when asked if he worried about that at all. "Go and alienate! You have my blessing. No, I could give a fuck."
Nobody told the president that in the show, Larry David wears the hat as a people repellent. pic.twitter.com/HahVLc62Ix
Curious who filmed this on their iPhone.
Can’t wait for Larry David’s response https://t.co/YMAFBy1Q4U
Trump just tweeted out the following video with the word f*ck used 7 times in an effort to make him look "tough"
If Trump actually watched the show, 3 minutes later, in the episode, Larry David says the MAGA hat is “a great people repellent"

Let’s check in with Larry David and his thoughts on the MAGA hat 🤣 pic.twitter.com/szqGaqKK2u
This is basically free advertising for Larry David’s show Curb Your Enthusiasm where he demonstrates how the Trump MAGA hat is great for soothing angry racist douchebags and keeping people away. What a spectacular self-own.
