Luke Perry's 18-year-old daughter Sophie Perry has opened up about the sudden death of her father after suffering a major stroke last week. Perry took to social media to share a photo of her and the 90210 star and to thank all the people who have shared their love and support to her and her family following his passing. She also explained that nobody is "given a lesson" on how to handle such a grave loss.
"A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast," she wrote on Instagram. "I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support."
The 18-year-old then explained that she's appreciative of all the messages she's received. "I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I," she continued. "I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So bare with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly."
Perry initially gained recognition in the early '90s for his portrayal of Dylan McKay in the series Beverly Hills, 90210. His role in the critically-acclaimed show solidified his idol status, which led to him being cast in the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Perry went on to star in the CW series Riverdale, which is currently in its fourth season.
Sophie is the daughter of Luke Perry and his ex-wife Rachel “Minnie” Sharp. A representative for Perry announced that the actor had passed at the age of 52 in a statement on Monday, disclosing that he was surrounded by his family at the time of his death. In addition to his daughter and her mother, the late actor is survived by his 21-year-old son Jack Perry and his fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer.
