'Infinity War' Grabs More Than $70 Million With China's No. 3 Opening Day of All Time

Excluding projections from China, 'Infinity War' has made $789 million at the international box office.

Avengers: Infinity War passed Beauty and the Beast on Thursday to became the No. 12 movie ever at the worldwide box office. But that was before it opened in China on Friday, where it's estimated to have made around an additional $70-77 million, counting Thursday night screenings. That gives Infinity War the country's third-biggest opening day of all time, behind Monster Hunt 2 and The Fate of the Furious, per Deadline.

Excluding projections from China, Infinity War has made $789.3 million at the international box office, beating The Jungle Book in India to become the highest-earning Western film ever in the market.The third Avengers flick's opening weekend in China is likely to eclipse $200 million. Age of Ultron is Marvel’s largest grossing film in China, with a $236 million final tally.

Infinity War is doing extremely well in other parts of the world. In the U.K. and Ireland, it became the highest-grossing MCU release and joined the Top 20 films ever at the international box office.

After last weekend, the new Marvel film became the No. 5 superhero movie of all time worldwide, hurtling past Iron Man 3. Infinity War is bound to beat the other films ahead of it—all of which are MCU titles—and take the spot as the No. 1 movie in the genre, with The Avengers at the head with $1.52 billion.
