'Deadpool 2' on Track to Earn Second-Biggest Opening for an R-Rated Movie in History

Deadpool 2 will likely lock in the position as the second highest R-Rated opening weekend at that box office on Sunday.

Deadpool 2 will likely lock in the position as the second-highest R-rated opening weekend at that box office on Sunday.

On Saturday morning, it was predicted that the film would bring in $130 million, according to Deadline. Although the Deadpool sequel did not earn the predicted $45 million-plus on Saturday (instead, coming in at $40.5 million), the movie is still on track to earn $125 million over the weekend, the second-highest for an R-rated film behind Deadpool ($132.4 million) and just ahead of It ($123.4 million).

Deadpool 2 needs to earn $31.2 million on Sunday to officially earn that honor. Either way, Deadpool 2 will still be one of three R-rated films to have ever earned more than $100 million during an opening weekend.

Deadpool 2 earned the best opening-day in history for an R-rated film on Friday after bringing in $53.3 million. The sequel—which stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, and Zazie Beetz—will also end Avengers: Infinity War's three-week reign at the top of the box office.
