This 'Black Panther' Deleted Scene Sheds New Light on Okoye and W’Kabi's Relationship

Ryan Coogler shared a never-before-seen deleted scene from 'Black Panther.'

Black Pantherhas been out for two and a half months now and many of us are left wanting more after repeated viewings. Fortunately, director Ryan Coogler shared a never-before-seen deleted scene on Tuesday.

Taking place after King T’Challa was thrown to his apparent death, the scene was originally intended to let the audience in on the fact that Okoye and W’Kabi were married. This isn't a huge surprise: The union is hinted at when W'Baki asks Okoye “Would you kill me, my love?” during Black Panther's climactic battle. The clip confirms their marriage once and for all.

"It's a scene between the characters Okoye and W’Kabi," Ryan Coogler says, introducing the clip. "It was the intention for the audience to really realize that Okoye and W’Kabi were husband and wife. So they had a confrontation or argument about where Wakanda was going to go after T’Challa's death. In the tribal council room, it was a scene with incredible performances from Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya, but it just didn't work in the film. But I'm really excited for folks to see it anyway."

If this short clip didn't fully scratch your itch for additional Black Panther content, don't worry. The movie will arrive on Blu-ray on May 15, featuring three deleted scenes in addition to the one above. You can see more information about the Blu-ray and digital releases here.
