Warner Bros. released the first look at this summer’s shark epic The Meg, starring Jason Statham. In the trailer, we get a look at the sci-fi thriller centered around a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark dubbed the Megalodon. The Meg, as they call the beast and the film both, threatens Statham and a research team trapped in the Pacific Ocean.

The flick is based on a New York Times best-seller by Steve Allen and directed by Jon Turteltaub. The Meg was shot off of the mainland coast of China and features an international cast starring Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Li Bingbing, Winston Chao Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Robert Taylor, Cliff Curtis, Sophia Shuya Cai, and Masi Oka.

In the movie, per Deadline, an international deep-sea submersible is attacked by a giant creature and becomes disabled, leaving its crew helpless at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific. Deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor, played by Statham, is recruited save the crew from the giant threat.

In the trailer, we get a Shark Week joke as well as a Jaws reference by Stathm. We also see quick shots of the Megalodon and a giant squid that also threatens the lives of the crew trapped underwater. The tagline “Chomp On This” pretty much sums up Statham’s performance.

The film is set to debut in theaters on Aug. 10. Watch the full trailer above.
