Featured Trailer of the Week: The Rock Saves The World Again In 'Rampage'

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has to save the world from genetically edited creatures in 'Rampage.'

The plot of Warner Brothers' Rampage will either be familiar to fans who grew up playing the classic ‘80s video game, or they’ll be coming to the story for the first time. If it’s the latter, who better to introduce a new generation than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson?

Extremely ripped primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson) shares a deep bond with George, the hyper-intelligent albino silverback gorilla who’s been in his care since birth. A rogue genetic experiment mutates George into a raging, enormous creature—and he’s not the only one. Newly created, genetically enhanced monsters destroy everything in their path, and Okoye has to team up with disgraced genetic engineer Dr. Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris). The two work together to come up with an antidote that will save not just George but the entirety of North America, starting with Chicago, from the mutated animals.

There is, of course, a villain in the form of Claire Wyden (Malin Akerman), the scientist who infects the animals with a mutagenic serum. In addition to infecting George, she’s also created predators like Ralph, a giant flying wolf, and Lizzie, a lizard-like creature. As Okoye and Caldwell rush to save everyone from these now hyper-muscular and -aggressive animals, fiery destruction (and hilarious Rock one-liners) ensues.

Rampage was directed by Brad Peyton, who’s worked with Johnson before on San Andreas and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. “Let’s go save the world,” Johnson says at one point in the trailer, and if there’s anyone capable of accomplishing that mission, it’s The Rock. Watch him in action when Rampage hits theaters Friday, April 13.
