UPDATED 11/15/2017 4:51 p.m. ET: And just when we thought we had it all figured out, Get Out director Jordan Peele opened up about the film and why it's hard to put it into one category. "The problem is, it’s not a movie that can really be put into a genre box," IndieWirereports Peele said. "Originally, I set out to make a horror movie. I ended up showing it to people and hearing, you know, it doesn’t even feel like horror. It’s in this thriller world. So it was a social thriller."
It doesn't sound like Peele had much of any input as to what category Get Out would be submitted for, saying he thought "it was just submitted." He further explained "what the movie is about is not funny. I've had many black people come up to me and say, ‘man, this is the movie we’ve been talking about for a while and you did it.’ That’s a very powerful thing. For that to be put in a smaller box than it deserves is where the controversy comes from."
"I think the issue here is that the movie subverts the idea of all genres," Peele ultimately explains. "Call it what you want, but the movie is an expression of my truth, my experience, the experiences of a lot of black people, and minorities. Anyone who feels like the other. Any conversation that limits what it can be is putting it in a box."

I know 2017 has been a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad year, but it has had its bright spots, one of which being Jordan Peele's box office smash Get Out, which was a satirical horror film that is still sitting at a 99% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. According to new reports, it's also been submitted as a comedy for the Golden Globes.
Now, sure, Lil Rel was HILARIOUS as the best friend in Get Out, and it had some genuinely funny moments, but when most people heard this news, their confusion turned into flames on social media.

The fact that Get Out was nominated for a comedy shows how some ppl didn't take it seriously and get the point of the film. That movie is a horror film, and the monster was racism.

Definitely not a comedy.

‘Get Out’ is a documentary.
Now, for those who don't understand how these things work, it isn't about what the Golden Globes classifies as films or television shows as; it's what these projects are submitted as. It's on the studio.
Biggest laugh is who all is mad but didn’t read the story to know it’s about Get Out being *submitted* as a comedy, not *classified* as one.
The real question is, why? Why would Peele/Blumhouse/whomever decided to throw Get Out into a Comedy category as opposed to... well, what are the other categories? It's either Best Motion Picture, Drama and Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. That's it. If there was a horror section? Get Out's only real competition would be It, and in a world where we need hashtags like #OscarsSoWhite, it's hard to believe that Get Out would get a fair shake in the Drama category. And, again, not only is the film funny (at times), it's primarily a satire, which SHOULD fit into anyone's definition of a "comedy" category.

Get Out's creators along with the studio SUBMITTED the film under comedy to give it a better chance to win since the Golden Globes have no horror category but rather DRAMA or COMEDY/MUSICAL. Pls read up on these things before getting outraged for no reason. Thanks.
Does it suck that studios have to take these precautions with films as powerful and black as Get Out? You're motherfucking right it does. But, that's what happens when you do something people haven't seen in this medium before, which Peele explained on CBS today.
"I was trying to bring a piece of the conversation I had never seen put on film before. I felt like there was this void in the way we talk about race," Peele said. "Really, my truth as a black man. My perspective that I haven’t seen in film before. I haven’t seen that represented."
I don't give a fuck how "woke" the Golden Globes is; they aren't woke enough to give Get Out the Best Motion Picture, Drama award, no matter how much it deserves it.
