It’s an old Hollywood cliché that the second you achieve the thing you’ve been chasing for years—whether it’s securing an agent, a gig, or even just an audition—it’s suddenly no longer enough. You want more, and that makes for a very slippery slope. It establishes the paradigm that no matter how successful you are, you’re never going to feel like you’ve actually “made it.”

In the hilarious new SHOWTIME original half-hour comedy series White Famous, stand-up comedian Floyd Mooney (Jay Pharoah) finds himself on the brink of a similar predicament. Having already found success as a stand-up, Floyd has no interest in playing the Hollywood game. But if he ever wants to reach that next level of stardom, it seems like playing the game is a necessity.

Floyd’s desire to not go “mainstream” is complicated by the fact that he has a young son who is depending on him, and a woman he loves who needs him to man up. When a new movie project comes along that would give him the chance to work with the one and only Jamie Foxx, Floyd realizes that it could be his big break. Of course, like with most things in showbiz, the process of trying to land the role is anything but smooth. Floyd must navigate the rocky waters of Hollywood and not compromise his integrity as an artist, while somehow keeping his soul intact.

White Famous’ executive producers include Californication creator Tom Kapinos, Ride Along director Tim Story, and the aforementioned Jamie Foxx, who appears in a truly hilarious guest spot as a fictionalized version of himself. Aside from Pharoah, the show’s stacked cast includes Jacob Ming-Trent, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Lonnie Chavis and Cleopatra Coleman. The first season also features a number of guest appearances, including Michael Rapaport, Natalie Zea, Stephen Tobolowsky and Meagan Good.

White Famous premieres with two back-to-back episodes on Sunday, October 15 at 10/9c only on SHOWTIME. However, you can watch the hilarious series premiere below and/or on YouTube!
