The Jabbawockeez’ Long Road to Becoming a Vegas Sensation

Sometimes you don’t need luck. You just need each other.

When you think of Las Vegas, you probably think of poolside partying and high-stakes poker. But, this town is also full of a whole lot of culture as well. And while Vegas entertainment is sometimes known for kitschy musicians and creaky musicians, it’s currently hosting one of the dopest dance crews out there: the Jabbawockeez.

One of the group’s founders, Kevin Brewer—a.k.a. KB—doesn’t have quite the background you might expect for a Jabbawockeez dancer. In his former life, he was actually a computer technician—but even as he was troubleshooting software and repairing hard drives, KB says he was always dancing.

After hooking up with the other dancers that would eventually comprise the Jabbawockeez group, KB and the others wound up taking the top prize on the first season of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. Since then, they haven’t looked back, and now find themselves doing two shows a night, six nights a week, in one of the most legendary cities in the world.

When the Jabbawockeez perform, their faces are all obscured by white masks, giving them a vibe that’s somewhere between Michael Myers and Guy Fawkes. But as the group’s other founding members all attest to, they’re not bad dudes by any stretch. In fact, the crew is all about unity; five unique individuals with different styles all coming together.

So what’s the secret to their success? Well, Jeff Nguyen—a.k.a. Phi—says that it’s simple: “Stay together.”

You can hear more from the Jabbawockeez about how they “Run the Underground” in Vegas in the video above, brought to you by New Amsterdam Vodka.
