Kevin Hart has taken to his Instagram Saturday night to make a very public, albeit cryptic, apology to his wife and kids for making a “bad error in judgment” and for hurting “the people closest to me.”
According to TMZ, Hart is attempting to get ahead of a nasty situation: a woman is attempting to make money off of a sexually suggestive video featuring Hart. It is not a sex tape, but “it looks like a prelude to sex.” Hart is not visible throughout the entire video, but it has been enough for him to apologize to his wife, who is pregnant, his children, and to over 54 million of his Instagram followers tonight.
"Someone tried to set Kevin up in a failed extortion attempt. As law enforcement is involved, we cannot comment further as it could affect the investigation,” a rep for Hart explained to TMZ.
“I should make smart decisions, and recently I didn’t,” Hart confessed in the video. “I’m not perfect, I’m not gonna sit here and claim to be in any way, shape or form… At the end of the day, I simply just gotta do better, but I also will not allow someone to make financial gain off of my mistakes.”

Hart does not make any specific claims or apologize for any specific thing in this Instagram video, but the comedian and actor has recently been the target of cheating allegations, so the timing of this situation is unfortunate at best.
Back in July, a paparazzi video that allegedly showed Hart "canoodling" with an unidentified brunette for about 20 minutes inside a car went viral. Sources also claimed Hart went partying with the same woman for his 38th birthday in Miami; his wife Eniko Parrish Hart did not join the festivities because she is currently pregnant. Hart responded to the rumors with just one Instagram.

Hart’s relationship with his current wife, Eniko, came under scrutiny again more recently when she wrote on Instagram that the couple had been together for eight years, an allegation which made some fans turn heads as Hart and his ex-wife, Torrei Hart, with whom he has two children, got divorced six years ago. In a since deleted comment, Parrish explained the situation by writing, “Their marriage was broken way before I came in the picture.. They were separated, living in separate homes. I was never a secret.”
Torrei then got involved, writing:
“Eniko sweetheart normally I don’t feed in to this, but when you addressed me directly, you forced my hand to respond. We have made successful strides to become a loving co parenting family, but you have now left it open for my character to be questioned. You, Kevin, and I know the truth.”
Although Eniko deleted all of the comments, Torrei spoke to TMZ to add more fuel to the fire. “Numbers don’t lie. Dates don’t lie at the end of the day,” she said.
Soon after, Hart took to his own Instagram to obliquely address the ordeal. “Going to be honest with you people, I’m at a point where I can’t even be shocked anymore. All I do is laugh man,” Hart said in an Instagram story video. “Even after writing a book, a very good book, about my life in great detail… still not enough?”
Even though we do not yet have a definitive explanation of what exactly is going on, the court of public opinion has spoken. The people of Twitter have already accepted all of the rumors as fact and are taking the opportunity to mercilessly roast Hart.

UPDATED 1:00 p.m. ET: Authorities have reportedly found a suspect in what appears to be an extortion case that led to Kevin Hart issuing a public apology Saturday night.
TMZ reports the F.B.I. has gotten involved, which would match up with Hart’s statement that, “I’m also not going to allow a person to have financial gain off of my mistakes.” Aside from extortion, it would seem the contents of the alleged video that prompted Hart’s apology are also a matter of legal record.
“Law enforcement sources tell us ... an anonymous person contacted Kevin's camp and provided the video TMZ described Saturday ... showing Kevin and a woman in a sexually provocative situation,” TMZ further reports. “The video then cuts to a bedroom where there appears to be sexual activity on a bed, although you don’t see who is in the bed.”
Should the report hold true, there are two issues to contend with. There’s what appears to be a rather obvious extortion attempt and also the matter of consent. The video in question was allegedly secretly taken with an iPhone propped up against an object in the bedroom. That would indicate at least one of the people involved—regardless of whether or not it was indeed Hart—was filmed without their consent, essentially making the clip an illegal sex tape.
